Reece's Birth Story

I wish I had written this earlier.  I hope I haven't forgotten all of the small details that I want to remember.

The Wednesday night and Thursday morning before I went into labor, the contractions that I had been feeling for weeks and months changed.  They were much more intense and would stop me in my tracks.  Leaning over the bathroom counter or kitchen counter became a common position to find me in.  After a trip to the doctor on Thursday morning (with a sick big sister), we came home to rest and wait.  The contractions I had been feeling hadn't done anything.  I was still only at 1 and you were not in position yet.  After getting home the contractions subsided and we went about the rest of the day and evening not thinking you were anywhere near ready to make an appearance.  Boy were we wrong about that!!

I scared the crap out of your daddy at 3 o'clock in the morning on Friday September 28, 2012!  My water broke!  He woke up to me in a panic trying to get to the bathroom.  It was not a trickle break, it was a GUSH!  So began our day!  Daddy called the doctor.  He said we had some time.  I took a shower, daddy took a shower, he called Grandma Larney and Poppy and told them it was time (G'ma had to come over so that Hannah and Eli could get off to school), Daddy ate breakfast, I tried but couldn't, Daddy loaded up the car (Daddy was taking VERY good care of me, I didn't have to lift a finger!) and we left for the hospital at 5.  During this time I wasn't feeling anything.  The contractions had gone back to how they were for pretty much the entire time I was pregnant.  Always there, but not too bad.  We talked about whether or not you come quickly, how labor would go, if you were a boy or a girl, if we still liked the names we had picked out.  If you were a girl you would have been Kathryn Marie, Katy for short.

We got to the hospital about 5:30.  We were nervous, anxious, and very excited.  We knew that we would not be leaving without you!  After getting registered and changed in triage, the nurse did a check.  I was dilated to 3 cm and 50% effaced!  We let our families know what was going on and they got us moved into a labor room.  By now it was about 7.  We had the most wonderful nurses.  I don't think Daddy and I could have gotten through the day without them.  I was Group B positive so I had to be hooked up the IV for the antibiotics and they wanted to monitor you and see what you were doing.  You had a few episodes that the nurse wasn't happy about.  Your heartrate would drop when they didn't want it too.  She wouldn't let Daddy and I walk until you settled down.  At about 9 she let me get up and out of the room to walk.  We walked for about an hour and came back for a check.  No progress had been made.  Pitocin had been brought up earlier in the morning when I was checked before walking and no change.  It was talked about again and Daddy and I decided we would try and see if it would help.

Help it did not.  You did not like the few more contractions it brought on.  Your heartrate was not ok with what was going on.  It would drop with the contractions and then it would drop when I wasn't having contractions.  The nurse and doctors started talking about how much they didn't like how things were going.  I can remember laying on my side, watching your daddy's face, listening to what the monitors did when I would have a contraction.  It was pretty scary.  Talk of a c-section started at noon.  After trying to get some saline back into the uterus to see if it would help things (that was unsuccessful), it was decided at 2 that we were headed to the OR.  Daddy walked with me to the room and then he had to wait outside for what he calls the longest 20 minutes (lots of time to think and be scared).  The doctors and nurses prepped me for surgery and then daddy was allowed to come back in.  I have no idea how much time had passed, Daddy says I was pretty loopy, but pretty soon we had a beautiful baby boy.  The most perfect little boy who is so loved and cherished.  Our sweet baby Reece.  All 5 pounds, 6 ounces and 19.25 inches long of our sweet baby Reece.  Little hands, long skinny feet, daddy's toes.  You have mama's nose, eyes, and ear shape.  You have daddy's mouth, chin, and ears that stick out just a little in the most adorable way.  You also have your daddy's wrinkles on your forehead just like he has on his forehead, they look like washboards.  Everything about you is perfect.  We can't wait to spend a million hours memorizing your smile, the faces you make, and what your cries mean.  We love you so very much sweet baby Reece.

2 Months

Wow, I can not believe you are 2 months old already!  Time seems to be flying by.  You are 9.5 pounds and 22.25 inches long.  You have grown 3 inches and gained almost 4 pounds since you were born!!  You are starting to smile at mama and daddy now.  When you hear daddy's voice you will turn your head to figure out where he's at.  You also try and figure out where Hannah and Eli are.  Daddy said last week you laughed.  He's tried a few times since then to get you to do it, but I haven't heard you laughing yet.  You are cooing so much more.  Your happiest time of day is in the morning.  You do more smiling and cooing then then any other time of day.  You don't sleep much during the day, cat naps mostly, 20 or 30 minutes a few times a day.  I can usually get you to take a longer nap if you are in the Moby Wrap.  Sometimes we get a very unhappy Reece in the evenings if you haven't had a good day of sleeping.  Daddy and I can't wait to see what new things you learn to do in the next month!

Newness

It's been awhile since we had a new baby in the house.  I had forgotten how quickly they grow and change.  I had forgotten how quickly they start doing new things everyday.  I'm hoping this will help me keep track of all that.  And give them something to look at and read and remember as well.
